Process to Claim Deposits Following Closure of Bank

Following the announcement of the closure of a bank and after the stipulated period to officially cease all operations and transactions with the public, all unclaimed deposits remaining with that bank are transferred to the Central Bank of Seychelles (CBS).

In the current cases of the closure and revocation of licence of the Seychelles branch of Habib Bank (HBL) and SBM Bank (Seychelles) Limited (SBM), any request for unclaimed deposits should be submitted to CBS.

The request should be made formally in writing, addressed to the Head of the Financial Surveillance Division of the CBS and forwarded by email to financialregulation@cbs.sc. The request should include the following:

  • Certified proof of identification, such as national identity card or passport;
  • Banking details for the transfer of funds; and
  • Contact details such as email address or telephone/mobile number.

The process should take an average of two working days to be completed, subject to all relevant documentation being provided in the request. Customers may contact CBS on 4282000 and choose line 3 or email info@cbs.sc to address any queries, complaints, or clarifications regarding their unclaimed funds and the process to claim their money.
