The series of notes currently in circulation incorporate the latest security features. The most prominent security features are indicated on the specimen bank notes below:
* When held up against the light, the water mark image of a turtle can be seen.
* The designs incorporate a ' windowed' cleartext security thread, when held up against the light, the thread will show as a continuous line, and the text reading 'CBS' will become clearly visible.
* See-through features; when the bank note is held up against the light, parts of the turtle design printed on the back will fit exactly with unprinted areas on the front.
* Specially developed metallic fluorescent ink was incorporated in the design.
* The notes contain a pattern designed to distort and visualise should any attempt be made to colour copy or scan the bank note.
The R500, R100 and R50 notes feature an additional distinct sailfish with a gold and silver foil on the dorsal fin
