Statistics Unit
The Statistics Section is the supporting arm of the Economic and Analysis sub-division
The Statistics Section's main functions are data collection, collation and analysis. The data collection function involves the compilation of economic, monetary and financial data from various sources, both domestic and foreign. Domestic financial institutions are required to submit reports at regular intervals. The Section also collects information from the National Statistics Bureau, the Department of Finance, the Bank’s Foreign Exchange Division and some statutory bodies. Data and information are also collected from private organisations for Balance of Payments purposes. The Bank is primarily responsible for monetary and financial
statistics
and that of Balance of Payments data. To allow for international comparison and adherence to international standards and norms on statistical compilation, the Section uses the guidelines as prescribed by the International Monetary Fund’s 2000 Manual on Monetary and Financial Statistics and Manual 5 on Balance of Payments. Processed data is disseminated to government agencies, the general public and external agencies such as the IMF on a regular basis.
Provide accurate and timely data and information on economic and financial matters to the Bank and other stake holders
· Collect, compile, consolidate and analyse economic, monetary and financial data from financial institutions and local agencies
· To maintain a repository of historical times series on economic and financial data;
· To produce a macro economic statistical framework to undertake forecasts;
