Monetary Analysis & Statistics Division

The Monetary Analysis and Statistics Division consist of two main interdependent sub-divisions: the Economic Analysis and Research unit and the Statistics Unit.  The former is the prime unit for economic research and analysis whilst the latter offers its support through the provision of statistics and other relevant information.

The three functional strategies of the Division are:

·         Be the economic intelligence of the Bank through its routine surveillance of economic activity in the domestic, regional and international arena;

·         Undertake research work so as to understand the workings of the domestic economy as well as regional and international developments; and

·         Assume the role of policy support and advice.

The Economic Analysis and Research Unit

Economic Analysis and Research is the economic intelligence unit of the Central Bank.  It is divided according to the four main economic pillars, namely Money and Finance, Balance of Payments, Government Finance and Real Sector.  Its main objective is to play a pivotal role in the formulation of economic and monetary policies and to generally act as advisor to the government on economic matters.

Its main responsibilities are:

  • Monitoring economic and financial developments both locally and internationally and providing advice on appropriate monetary policy settings in Seychelles
  • Undertaking research and studies on sectors of interest in the economy and prepare economic forecasts
  • Prepare the Bank’s publications namely the Quarterly Review and Annual Report and reports on economic and financial matters on a weekly and monthly basis
  • Disseminate economic knowledge and promote greater understanding of economic issues
  • Assist international agencies such as the IMF and World Bank on their regular missions
